Opening doors for the next generation
Pooleys supports three scholarship programmes. Flying Scholarships for Disabled People (FSDP) exists to make aviation accessible to people with physical, mental or fatigue-related disabilities, with no fixed standard of achievement and a focus on what each individual can accomplish on their own terms. The Air League offers flying scholarships to young people, and the Honourable Company of Air Pilots provides scholarships at various levels for those pursuing a career in aviation.
Pooleys also supports Helping Dreams Take Flight, a scholarship programme that this year received over 250 applications, leading to 21 interviews and seven winners across gliding and powered flying. Every one of those scholars has overcome real barriers to reach this point, whether financial, personal or practical, and all seven will begin their training this summer.

On Wednesday 6th May, Sebastian Pooley visited the 2026 FSDP scholars in person to hand over their Pooleys Starter Kits. It was a straightforward thing to do, but it meant a great deal. These are people at the beginning of a journey that will challenge and inspire them, and starting with the right equipment is part of making that journey feel real and achievable from the very first lesson.

What is in a Pooleys Starter Kit?
Pooleys Starter Kits are put together to support both theory learning and practical flying from the outset.
